Sketch Up developement
3D Sketches:
More Research
There are very many different types of chairs and they continue to be updated and renovated to include many different functions and possibilities. Through my research there was a type of chair which I found very interesting, which are chairs which can be transformed, mostly which build up to a shape or just to be more compact. This is a more recent style of chair and there are many styles which I came across.
Although I’m not sure of the technical name for them I will call them Transformable chairs:
This is a chair designed by Dedon and as you can see is transformed into to the cylinder type object on the right. This is a very simple sleek design, which is similar to their style. I find this very interesting and the design aspects are significant as each chair must fit perfectly in with the other.

This is another more simple design, and it takes on a chair and table, a sofa and a bed. This a great simple design. It would require a very specific fabric to be a table and also a bed but the idea is a good one.
This is another simple transforming chair, similar to the dedon obelisk above however only has 2 chairs and a table. This is an outdoor chair and is a classy design, simple again.
This is another more recent design and can be transformed into, a couch, two chairs and also flattened out to become a bed. This takes a simple style and makes it unique, also the bright colour lightens it up even more.
This chair takes transforming to another level as it goes from a comfy couch into a bunk bed. This is something which would be ideal for a rumpus room. However this is another one which I believe to tranform it may take some learning to work out how to do it easily.
After looking into some scenarios I discovered it could be interesting to incorporate the element of creating something specifically for children. This will broaden the features I could incorporate in the concept and also supply a more specific aim in my design
Childrens Chairs
These are interesting chairs, they look comfy and great for kids, the ones at the back look like they can be moved around easily, I like this idea.
These are realatively simple chairs but the colours are very bright and exciting, it would be enticing for young children.

These are very creative chairs, they look amazing and I imagine they would be very appealing to young children.
This is a chair which also can be a fun tunnel to craw through.

After carrying out all this research, I would like to design something which has some features of the transforming style of furniture and also something which could be created for children with added features and entertainment aimed at children.
Different types of chairs:
Dining Chairs
This is a traditional style for a dining chair.

Sofa Chairs:
This is a modern take on a sofa chair, incorporating a kind of playful aspect to the chair.
This is an old fashioned style rocking chair, they were first made in the 1800s and are still found in houses throughout the world today.
Whereas, this is a more modern take on a rocking chair, it is a sleek simple design but still meets the basic purpose of a rocking chair

Project 02: rethinking form and function
Project 02 is to explore and rethink form and function, using some of the techniques we learnt in the previous assignment and also learning some new things along the way.
I have chosen to apply this to the chair, which is defined as ‘a separate seat for one person, typically with a back and four legs’ . Chairs are something which has been around, more or less, since people, they may have not called them chairs back then but it is physically impossible for a person to stand all of the time. A chair can take many different shapes and sizes, and through the years many different types of chairs have been created, from thrones to sofas to sun beds. We have chairs with one, two, three, or four legs, chairs with or without arms, and chairs with or without backs. They have been created to be used for all sorts of different things and are constantly being reinvented and modified to be more modern and unique styles.
